Student Eligibility Requirements

Age: 18 years of age for intrastate only (restricted), 21 years of age for interstate (unrestricted).

Driver's License: Possession of a State Driver's License (valid for at least one year).

Availability: Schedule that will not interfere with class attendance/participation.

The following is not required for enrollment but will be necessary for obtaining a license:

Real ID Compliance: Ability to comply with the State of Alaska Real ID Act. Required Government Issued Documents when obtaining a CDL License from the DMV include a valid U.S. Passport or Passport Card, U.S. State or Territory Issued Birth Certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, Valid Permanent Resident Card, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or Certificate of Citizenship. Medical Certification: Submission of a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examiner's certificate prior to obtaining your commercial Driver's License.

All prospective and enrolled students are to download and carefully review the Student Guide & Course Catalog.

We'll review your form and course choices, and then reach out to confirm your spot.
If you're uncertain about the courses to choose, we'll reach out to assist you in selecting the appropriate ones.
Behind-the-Wheel classes accommodate 10 students each. If your preferred schedule is full, we'll suggest other dates.
Upon confirming the dates, an invoice will be emailed to you, and a deposit is required to secure your place.
We offer multiple payment options and are open to arranging a suitable payment plan for your convenience. Feel free to inquire about financial aid assistance if needed. We are here to help.

Payment Information

Payments for ELDT Theory Online Classroom Courses are required by the Thursday before the class starts. Courses commence on the first Saturday of every month.
For Behind the Wheel Courses, a 50% deposit is due by the Thursday before the class starts, with the remaining 50% payable a week before the test date.
Payment plan options are determined on a case-by-case basis.
*The maximum payment term period covers the entire duration of the driver's permit, and the full balance must be cleared before undergoing a certification test.
Please note that a convenience fee of 3% will be added to credit card payments. There is also a $25 fee for returned checks (NSF). Additionally, a 50% deposit is necessary to confirm course dates and complete the registration process. *Alternative payment arrangements can be made by contacting us directly.

Unpaid balances will incur a late fee of 1.5% for every 30-day period overdue.

Attendance Policy and Rescheduling Fees

Attendance is critical to your success in this program. Consistent participation ensures you gain the necessary knowledge and skills. Missing classes or failing to show up for scheduled sessions will result in rescheduling fees.

Rescheduling and Additional Driving Time Policy

If a student misses a class or does not show up and wants to reschedule to make up for the missed session, a rescheduling fee applies per 2 hours, at the current rate.
Switching scheduled driving times with another student is permitted, provided it is approved by the driving instructor.
Options for additional driving time without an instructor are available; please contact your instructor to make arrangements.
If a student wishes to schedule additional driving time with an instructor outside the allotted program hours, the current per-2-hour rate applies.
If unforeseen circumstances arise, please contact your instructor as soon as possible to inform us.

Current rescheduling and additional driving time rates are available from the Administrative Office.

Certification Exam
Failure to pass the certification exam or missing the scheduled appointment requires an additional fee, at the current rate, for the next exam.

Classroom Instruction (ELDT Federal + DMV State): General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicles instruction and testing. Must pass to advance to Behind the Wheel Training.
Behind the Wheel Training: Assigned Based on Evaluation of 40, 30, 20, or 10 Hour Sessions.
Certification Exam

Class B Program

Classroom Instruction (ELDT Federal + DMV State): General Knowledge and Air Brakes instruction and testing. Must pass to advance to Behind the Wheel Training.

Classroom Instruction (ELDT Federal + DMV State): General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Passenger Transport instruction and testing. Must pass to advance to Behind the Wheel Training.

How Our Programs Work

Every CDL Program at AKA Hauling Commercial Driving School, LLC includes three components:

Classroom Instruction: delivered in person and via live Zoom classes, covering both state (DMV) and federal (ELDT/FMCSA) testing requirements needed to obtain a CDL.

Behind the Wheel Training: Hands-on skills training for CDL A, B, or B Passenger, covering range and street driving activities specified in entry-level driver training regulations. Includes pre-trip inspections, backing maneuvers, and coupling and uncoupling.

Certification Exam: a 2 hour DMV certification test.

At registration, each student is evaluated to determine which program, and how many Behind the Wheel hours, best fits their experience level and goals.

School buses, transit buses, motorcoaches

Class A. Covers driving a tractor pulling a trailer, like an 18-wheeler. You need this license if the truck and trailer together weigh 26,001 lbs or more, and the trailer itself weighs over 10,000 lbs. It's the most flexible CDL since it covers Class B and C vehicles too.

Class B. Covers driving a single, heavy vehicle that isn't hauling a big trailer, like a box truck. Any towed trailer has to stay under 10,000 lbs. Think delivery trucks, dump trucks, and straight trucks.

Class B Passenger. A Class B license with the Passenger endorsement added, so you can drive vehicles built to carry 16 or more people, like buses.

UPGRADING OR ADDING A LICENSE CLASS?

Students who already hold a CDL and want to upgrade, or who hold one class and want to add another (for example, Class B adding Class A or Class B Passenger; Class A adding Class B Passenger; or Class B Passenger adding Class A).

This path includes:

Classroom Portion (required only if needed, based on an evaluation of the student's individual experience and knowledge gaps)
Behind the Wheel sessions (duration varies based on individual student needs)
